Darren Hector

I’m a proud son of Sheffield born in 1968, married to Mandy for over 25 years and have two sons, both in their 20’s, and a lovely little dog called Poppy.

We moved to Walkeringham in December 2023 after a day trip to Gainsborough Hall and stumbled across the cottage for sale and it was love at first sight. I only wish, now that we are here, that we had done it years ago.

Having been a supermarket manager for many years and in retail since leaving school  I decided to move into field sales management 18 years ago working at McCurrach and have been here ever since, managing teams of people across the country on behalf of clients like PepsiCo, Unilever, Nestlé to name a few. We basically ensure that when the public are out in supermarkets our clients products are available, easy to see, correctly priced and have a bigger visibility impact through displays than competitor brands.

After the love of my family, gardening, gym and music are things I love the most, having been a semi-pro drummer in my younger days I hung my sticks up and thats when gardening took over as my main passion. I was a keen football fan of Sheffield Wednesday and played Saturday, Sunday league football but as I started picking up more injury’s more often, I decided the gym was a more healthy option to keep fit.

I am a practising Buddhist and have been the last 8 years regularly attending Sheffield Buddhist Temple where I learnt the benefits of meditation and have facilitated many on line meditation classes and guidance.

I have a huge appetite to look at ways I can support others from being a big pair of ears to listen to helping get their garden sorted or general helping out . I love to love and get a huge smile on my face most when I see happiness.

I guess that’s why I became a Parish Councilor, I adore Walkeringham and the surrounding areas the people, the calmness, the lack of litter and crime, the scenery and having lived in a city all my life the total quietness, thats something I wanted to help maintain plus help the village progress where ever possible.

I am a proper grafter, as my friends say, so I am happy to get involved in anything as long as its not involving heights and can’t wait to get to know how I can help our village through any challenges we have or future ideas and development, and more than looking forward to being part of planning and executing events and fund raising ideas.

My main attributes would be communication, facing into any conversation and find transparency, honesty and simplifying the issues is usually well received and helps people understand whats possible and why when things are not.  I’m also a real life think tank and enjoy suggesting many different angles to solve an issue or challenge and a big believer in change of direction whilst not always needed can be the only way to look at what things can work better and improve matters, doing the same thing will only ever give the same results.
